Rendering with Markers by Doug Gittens
In this film you are invited to render an interior space created by generating a basic block perspective in the computer using 3D software, in this case 3D MAX. The image is traced by hand and then rendered using markers giving the visual an individual hand drawn quality with a personality of its own. This gives you the opportunity to develop your own style of rendering that will give your visuals a different atmosphere and character to computer generated visuals. The final drawing can be scanned into Photoshop, where figures and graphics can be added. At the ‘pitching’ or start of a project visuals that are hand rendered are often appreciated by the client as their unfinished quality suggests there is still opportunity for dialogue about a project. Do not be afraid to experiment with different colours, work quickly and celebrate ‘happy accidents’.
